Custom Web Applications
As web app development experts, RED can develop your web app quickly and effectively. Our staff of programmers, mathematicians, and educators bring the appropriate mix of technical wizardry and user-interface know-how for user-friendly and accurate applications. Our proprietary RED Calculation Engine handles the complex “under-the-hood” work so we can concentrate on the friendly design of the user interface.
We handle all the supporting documentation for our web applications. For detailed information see the background and assumptions document and disclaimer for the AirCycler web app shown below. Of course, we are able to brand your web app in a manner appropriate for your needs. Your custom web app can be embedded on your website so that you can have total control over the content surrounding the app. If your web app is hosted by RED, it can be positioned in an iFrame so that you have control of the surrounding content and we can provide access to Google Analytics data to you regarding the use of the embedded web app.
The two web apps shown below were developed by RED for AirCycler and Panasonic with the objective of providing the annual operating cost of various ventilation options. The apps provide the cost of operating the fan motor and heating/cooling costs lost in the ventilation air. Users, intended to be contractors and homeowners, merely enter:
- Ventilation system type,
- ZIP Code,
- Floor area,
- Number of bedrooms,
- Number of stories, and
- Fuel type
The cost of heating fuel and electricity are automatically entered based on ZIP Code based on U.S. government values (these values are updated by RED monthly). This adjusted default costs may be overridden by the user of the web app. Click on the AirCycler app screenshot below to try the working web app.

ASHRAE 62.2 Expertise
The RED staff has unique expertise and understanding of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 62.2, Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Residential Buildings. We have developed a compliant RED tool for each every-three-years edition of 62.2 since 2007, including the unique California edition of Standard 62.2. Additionally, the president of RED has served on the ASHRAE 62.2 committee since 2007. In 2016 we were awarded the contract to write the ASHRAE 62.2-2016 User’s Manual.
RED staff is called on to train and consult across the country on the topics of ASHRAE 62.2 and residential ventilation design and installation. Because our RED 62.2 design/calculation tools are the most popular in use, we receive many support questions regarding the compliant use of the ASHRAE 62.2 standard, making us aware of the issues the users in the field are having with the Standard.
A particularly complex section of the ASHRAE 62.2 Standard is Section 4.5 Variable Mechanical Ventilation, a section needed for many automatic and programmed ventilation controls. As a result of our RED tools and writing the ASHRAE 62.2-2016 User’s Manual, we have a thorough knowledge of this challenging section of the Standard.
Training
RED offers full-service training for all of our tools, both RED Calc Free and RED Calc Pro, and for many Building Science topics, including ASHRAE 62.2, Zone Pressure Diagnostics, Blower Door Subtraction, and more.
