RED and AirCycler just launched the revised version of the Annual Ventilation Cost Calculator. This innovative application can be used to determine the operation costs (fan-operation electricity and heating and cooling costs) for most ventilation systems installed in dwellings in any ZIP code location in the U.S.

This web application, using the latest calculation techniques and weather data, proves ventilation is NOT expensive to operate, although some ventilation systems cost more than others. This free online calculator includes the proprietary AirCycler controls, but also includes four general options for comparison, including HRV/ERV connected to a furnace and HRV/ERV stand-alone equipment.

If a furnace is used as part of the whole-building ventilation, the furnace default values (flow through the supply damper from the outdoors and the furnace fan wattage) can be overridden by the user. Additionally, if a custom exhaust fan is used as part of the ventilation system, the fan flow rate and fan wattage can be entered for individualized results. Default ZIP code heating-fuel and electrical costs are updated monthly; these can be overridden by the user to custom-tailor any analysis.

AirCycler’s Jason Wolfson stated: “Version 2.0 significantly improves the AirCycler web application by including four HRV and ERV options for comparison to our products. We love it!”

We were delighted to partner with AirCycler on this project and we hope you will find the Annual Ventilation Cost Calculator easy to use and helpful for your work. Much of the under-the-hood magic of this Calculator is based on the RED Advanced InfiltrationVentilation Electrical Usage, and ASHRAE 62.2-2013 and 2016 Ventilation tools. The cost of operating ventilation is surprisingly low; this web application demonstrates this. Please give it a try
