COVID-19 Statement
We understand the difficulties COVID-19 has brought to the world of work and training. RED is ready to help with your training needs during these difficult times, whether you are looking for live or recorded online training. We are able to present the onsite training topics listed below in an online format that suits your needs. We are also experts in the area of COVID-19-related guidance for HVAC and other important topics because of our experience on the residential team of the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force.

We offer training in a number of different formats to suit your needs, including video tutorials, and on-site and online training. Over the last thirty years we have presented training in all regions of the U.S, so we understand the differences in housing stock and HVAC equipment. We are experts with any of the RED tools, of course, but we also have expert knowledge of many building science topics, including ASHRAE 62.2 ventilation, zone pressure diagnostics, combustion safety testing, HVAC systems, duct evaluation and testing, air leakage evaluation, and more.

On-Site Training

Most educational experts agree that on-site, face-to-face training is the most effective, especially if done by a skilled trainer. The trainers at RED have a combined experience of over 60 years of training, including secondary and college levels. We were at the forefront of the development of the specialty of building science, helped with the development of the National Weatherization Curricula and the NREL Standard Work Specifications.

Over the last three decades, we have presented on-site training at national energy and weatherization conferences, state conferences, for local weatherization agencies, and for public gas and electric utilities. Many of our training sessions include classroom and field training.

On-site training we have recently presented includes:

  • Zone Pressure Diagnostics (ZPD), classroom and field
  • ASHRAE 62.2-2016, classroom and field
  • Installing ventilation in WAP houses
  • Cost analysis of operating residential ventilation systems
  • The Hole Story of Air Leakage Metrics
  • Training for any of our RED Calc Free or RED Calc Pro tools

RED offers online internet conferencing and training. This service fills many needs, including Q&A about RED Calc tools, and discussions related to integrating RED tools into your program. Our screen-sharing/conferencing service works on PCs, Macs, and mobile devices.

Additionally, we are willing and capable of presenting online training on a number of building science topics, including ASHRAE 62.2 (Rick is a member of the ASHRAE 62.2 committee), Zone Pressure Diagnostics (ZPD), and many more. Contact us for more information.

Online training we have recently presented includes:

  • Zone Pressure Diagnostics (ZPD)
  • ASHRAE 62.2-2013
  • ASHRAE 62.2-2016
  • ASHRAE 62.2-2019
  • Air-leakage metrics methods
  • Measuring duct airflow with a pitot tube
  • Training for RED Calc Free and/or RED Calc Pro tools

Regular Online Courses for CEUs

Since 2015, RED has presented two online courses through HeatSpring, an innovative online training provider. One of the two courses Rick Karg teaches is ASHRAE 62.2 Ventilation for Single-Family Dwellings. This course has an innovative new format: Course materials are available immediately when you register and you have one year to complete the course. You have access to Rick each week via a very innovative and streamlined message board. And you may choose to be part of a monthly online meeting with Rick and other students. Fifteen Building Performance Institute (BPI) CEUs are available upon course completion. The RED Calc Free ASHRAE 62.2-2016 tool and the Air Leakage Metrics tool are used to solve examples.

Karg also teaches Zone Pressure Diagnostics: Precise Leak Detection and Measurement in Buildings, a self-study session, available at any time from HeatSpring. This course offers 0.75 BPI CEUs. The RED Calc Free ZPD tool is used for the session examples. This free online course for CEUs is a good choice for stay-at-home/office study.
